What we teach

Interwoven educational areas

  •  Informatics, Humanities, Science, English language, Spanish language, Sports and health

We connect learning areas to teach in context. For example, it is not very effective to discuss modern history separately - in history, then in literature, in the basics of social sciences... it is not only cognitively inefficient, it is also impractical and lengthy, because everything is related to everything. It actually applies to all eras. There is also no need to report work with the text to the Czech language class, because the text is also a political discussion, a rant on a social network, or the output of a GPT chat. You always need to understand the content and the intention first, only then are you interested in other circumstances such as formal language devices or whether the text is spelled correctly. In the humanities, we also include teaching financial literacy and guiding students towards entrepreneurship. We focus on the development of students' aesthetic perception, e.g. in the form of artistic creation. There is a theater club at the school, whose student members go regularly to performances of Prague scenes.

In the Science subject, we try to integrate science areas in a similar way. For a deeper understanding of physical and chemical topics, a quality mathematical foundation is usually needed, therefore connecting the natural sciences is more demanding and involves careful planning of the sequence of topics, nevertheless we strive for this and we also try to develop in students a real for scientific research and an effort to critically evaluate sources.

We use English not only in English lessons, but wherever it is appropriate. Our team includes native speakers who try to bring the realities of the countries whose language they speak into their lessons.

We also have the subject "Vuelta" focused on the development of personal and social competences. We borrowed the name from Spanish and it came about in the sense of "we are going back to what happened, we are doing a retrospective". The aim of this course is to teach students to assess the results of their work, to evaluate the efforts made and personal progress. This subject is assessed verbally only.

We teach in ninety-minute blocks. The bell doesn't ring at school. We also take breaks according to the current need.

IT

We deal with IT areas across and connect algorithmic thinking with mathematics. In the first year, all students go through the basics of programming and web development, in the second year we focus on databases, analysis, application deployment and frontend development. In the third year we focus on Linux, IoT and cyber security. In the fourth year, we focus on IT architecture, technical solutions to more complex problems and a general overview of digital competences, some students are already working on the development of their own software project.

In all areas, we are interested in the involvement of Artificial intelligence and the possibilities of its use.

YEAR 1 – C# basics, git, html, css, deployment, TCP/IP, micro:bit, ten finger typing and user skills

YEAR 2 – API, SQL databases, tech. analysis, Python, Javascript, frameworks, UX, social networks, AI

YEAR 3, YEAR 4 – Linux platform, algorithms, IoT, school software projects, Cyber security, IT architecture, Software development process and good practice,  broader digital competence

Teaching plan

Our curriculum is based on the Framework Education Program for Gymnasiums (RVPG), we use the available hours to increase the number of hours of computer science, English and physical education. We have our own subjects: Infor/maths, Humanities, Science, fully integrating the educational areas described in the RVPG, we far exceed the required output competencies.

From the third year onwards, we offer students compulsory optional subjects and seminars, which creates the possibility of compiling your own schedule focused on the areas that the student wants. Each student then has the so-called "BASE" subjects in the schedule, which are compulsory, and "ADVANCED" subjects, which he can choose himself and only has to observe the total number of hours.

In the 2023/2024 school year, we offer the following seminars for the 3rd and 4th year:

  • Cyber security
  • Algorithmization
  • Python
  • English conversation
  • Financial literacy
  • Creative writing
  • Spanish conversation
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Psychology
  • Debating
